Van Arkel Corp was a mining company based in Africa. They had the largest extraction and refinement operation in Africa. They primarily mined uranium, and had several mines across the continent. The company suffered major losses when they were forced to cease uranium mining after the Global Conflict of 2040, which denuclearised Earth.[1]
Sometime around 2060, the heir to the company, Marion, broke into an abandoned Van Arkle mine in South Africa in order to resurrect the family name. However, she unknowingly releases built up radiation, which threatens the nearby city of Pretoria.
