The 5th Thunderbirds Annual was released late into 1971, to maximise Christmas sales.
As far as the publishers were concerned, it was a disaster. Disappointing sales resulted in a very short print run and a temporary end to the Thunderbirds annual.
Very few survive today, making this a rare annual for collectors to find.

Thunderbirds Annual 1972 was the last of the original Thunderbirds annuals.
By Christmas 1971, interest in Thunderbirds had sadly started to decline, hence very few were printed in comparison with previous issues. This makes the 1972 annual the most sought after by collectors.
Ownership of the copyright had moved to Polystyle, who returned the format through-out, to a complete Thunderbirds theme. The annual was also smaller in pagination with only sixty-two pages compared to ninety-four in previous years.
Another difference was the introduction of Lady Penelope, who along with Parker, featured in a novel titled "Ordeal for Parker", and a comic strip titled "Parker".
