"The Trapped Spy" is the third story in Danger and Deception, a Thunderbirds audio boxset from Anderson Entertainment. It was adapted by Andrew Clements from the comic of the same name, originally published in 1967 as part of TV Century 21's Thunderbirds series.

A showcase of International Rescue's apolitical nature, the story sees the rescue organisation going head-to-head with the Universal Secret Service by carrying out two rescues in the unfriendly 'enemy' country Bereznik.

Synopsis[]

International Rescue is caught in an impossible situation after a Universal Secret Service agent is trapped behind enemy lines. When Jeff Tracy refuses the request for help, the USS resorts to blackmail to get what they want, risking further lives in the process and stretching International Rescue’s resources to breaking point.

Trivia[]

  • Commander Shore makes a cameo appearance, as he had in the original comic strip. This is the first time a character from Stingray has an appearance in a full-cast Thunderbirds story.
  • As in the original comic strip (and quite unusually), Thunderbird 2 utilises two pods for one rescue mission; firstly, Pod 4 to carry Thunderbird 4, and then, secondly Pod 3 to carry the Mole.
  • Thunderbird 2 was carrying Pod 3 when collecting Thunderbird 4 from Bereznik, which means that this is the first time that Thunderbird 4 is carried aboard Pod 3.
  • In the original comic, Tobolsk and his men are seemingly killed during Thunderbird 1's rescue of Gordon. In this audio version, they survive as Scott incapacitates them using a missile filled with knockout gas. Tobolsk is subsequently arrested.
  • After Scott destroys the stolen Bereznik plans, Admiral Dante complains to International Rescue, only to be rebuked by an angry Jeff Tracy, who had informed the World President about the Admiral's reckless actions.
