"The Big Bang" is the 31st Thunderbirds comic story, originally published over four parts in TV21 & Joe 90 issues 5 through 8.
The story was a major shift for Thunderbirds in comic form, with long-time artist Frank Bellamy having left at the conclusion of the previous story. John Cooper would take over the reins and stay on until the strip finally concluded in the middle of 1970.
Synopsis[]
New York city is testing out a new form of demolition: towing old buildings out to sea and then sinking them. A demonstration is organised for a group of reporters, but one of them notices a boy still inside the condemned building. Before anyone can do anything, however, the detonation charges go off and the building sinks to a watery grave. But the building's plans indicate the basement floors might just be water-tight, and so an urgent call goes out for help. Gordon in Thunderbird 4 responds, but he's not the only submarine down there...
