2015[]

I don't like the look of the new Tracy Island for 2015. It seems a little bit like the Isle of Man on a bad day (my mate Jeff, who lives in Dublin, sends me his 'worst part of the UK to be in right now' pictures each month, and IOM more often than not takes the bait).

Good lord, is there something that's gonna be kept the same as the original show?

Kevin, the reason why Tracy Island and the Thunderbird craft look so different (most likely along with the family themselves, including the colour of their sashes and hair) is due to licensing issues, apparently. It was mentioned in an interview that production had no choice but to make everything different from the originals (yet keep them recognisable). Considering ITV own Thunderbirds outright these days, I don't see how this could be a problem, unless they don't want to pay Royalties (and that's a weak excuse, since there is so much "classic" merchandising out there) or fear the target audience of today won't "buy" them as realistic designs. Paul (can I call you that?), I thought the BBC bought a lot of Gerry's shows (mainly Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons) sometime in the mid-90's. It kind of seems the same way with that abysmal festering turd of a film Jonathan Frakes made 10 years ago now (with everything being different and all).
I mean, the new TB1 looks like it ain't gonna fly in reality (the wings are too short), and the rest of them look quite blocky. If ITV's being a son-of-a-~*!<# just because of the royalties issue, I'm not thinking of watching the show when it's first released (has anything more been said about airing it, BTW?)

I do have to agree with Kevin on the blockiness issue. They look like they were made out of Lego, which I think I might never get over. The Tech GuyTech Support Hotline 22:26, January 11, 2015 (UTC)
You're more than welcome to call me that. The BBC never owned the program, only the broadcast rights, plus a section on their website for the shows. Thess presumably expired after ITV absorbed both Carlton and Granada in 2004. For more on the shifting issue of rights over the past 50 years, check out the upcoming article I'm working on dedicated to Thunderbirds ownership.
As for the 2004 movie, there's no love lost between me and that production. It was nice to see the Thunderbirds on the big screen, and there was some genuine rescue excitement in the latter quarter, but I (at least) feel the movie's greatest fault came in giving the far too young Alan and crew more screen time than the rest of the family. That being said, having seen what was panned for the abandoned 1995 film and 2004 first draft, it could have been much, much worse.
When it comes to all the planned reworks and remakes, everyone has tried to "reinvent the wheel", some more disasterous than others. In the 2015 remake's case, I don't mind the new Thunderbird 1, but the wings could definitely be longer as you mentioned. Plus Guyus24 is spot-on with the Lego remark, with Thunderbird 2 being the hardest hit. Granted the original wasn't exactly the most plausable design, but it was sleek and curved to be aerodynamic. The new version? Not so much.
As for news on the show, yes there has been a bit. Aside from the Christmas trailer, a publicity booklet has revealed Virgil's uniform (his sash is now green to represent the craft), which can be viewed HERE . Further revealed are the leaked headshots of Alan and Brains, which will no doubt raise a few eyebrows. The image is HERE .

I wouldn't be surprised if 99.99% of people don't watch the first episode of the new series. Sniping is AwesomeDefeat the Sniper 08:08, January 12, 2015 (UTC)

I don't mind the new tracey island and I really can't wait to see itfor myself. My only concern is Thunderbird 5 and the fact that David Graham isn't revoicing Brians as he was brilliant. I do wish the best of luck for the new brian voice actor and series. Gerry Anderson would be proud.

Hope they kept the eyes.

Oh my. I've seen what Virgil's outfit looks like, and it kind of seems like something off, say, Star Trek or Power Rangers. Brains looks a lot like Baxter Stockman off TMNT (with the African-looking skin tone and glasses) and what the .... were they thinking for Alan? He looks like a gay version of Herge's Tintin (no offence, but he does look quite camp).
The funny thing is, when I was younger, my dad used to say Alan was the gay one, but then he said they all were (even though Alan was the only one of his bros and dad to actually have a girlfriend). For my nomination for "Worst Use of CGI - Ever!", the new heads take the bait.

Typography[]

The top of these pages look incredibly messy. The hatnote, the quote, the page itself, all in the same typeface, and nothing (NOTHING!) that separates the former from the latter.... How incredibly amateurish.... Sorry! (not) Robert Denby (talk) 00:20, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

The hatnote is supposed to be placedon top of the infobox. On this page it was placed beneath it, which caused it to look bad. Thank you for noticing. Next time if you could conform to Wiki standard instead of inventing a new one yourself for only a single page, that would be appreciated.
