Seeking Disaster is a stub
You can help Thunderbirds Wiki by expanding it.

"Seeking Disaster" is a Thunderbirds comic story, and the first published in the merged TV21 & Joe 90 publication. It ran for four parts between issues 1 to 4.

A 'soft-reboot' of the series, the story begins with two introductory panels, where readers are familiarised with the core premise and cast of characters. It would be Frank Bellamy's last Thunderbirds story as artist, which he had illustrated near continuously since Blazing Danger at the start of 1966. Midway through this story, Thunderbirds would be demoted to black and white, marking the first time Thunderbirds had been in black and white since Mission to Africa, and the first time it had been entirely black and white. Thunderbirds would remain in this format until it left TV21.

Synopsis[]

The eccentric Dr Melvin Kettle decides to go against all advice and drill through the extinct volcano on the island of Puerto Tamina in search of vast mineral deposits. He finds a vast deposit of oil, but his machinery unknowingly sparks and ignites further oil pockets below sea - which make their way through the seafloor and set the ocean surrounding the island ablaze. With the fire far too vast for conventional fire fighting methods, International Rescue are going to have to come up with a creative way of extinguishing the blaze to save the island and its residents.

Trivia[]

  • In the introductory panels, Brains is outright named as Professor Horatio Hackenbacker.
  • The Mole is back in action after it had previously met a fiery end during the course of City of Doom, a fate which it only narrowly escapes from again here.
