"Night and Day" is the fourth episode of Thunderbirds Are Go! season 3. It was broadcast on April 21, 2018, in the UK.

Plot[]

The Gray and Houseman mining operation now includes planet Mercury; it uses a moving vehicle that has to stay on the 'dark side' of the planet. However, when a malfunctioning pod leaves the vehicle stranded - and with the sun's blazing heat drifting ever closer - International Rescue is summoned to solve the problem.

Quotes[]

Alan: "Uh, Brains, are you bringing every tool in the hangar?"
Brains: "I want to be prepared, Alan. There's no t-telling what I'll need to fix the crawler."
Alan: "You have your brain, Brains. What more do you need?"
Brains: "P-plasma shielding." (to MAX) "Oh, don't forget the p-plasma shielding, MAX!"

Brains: "Get those p-panels as close to the Sun as possible and get back here f-fast."
Alan: "Sure, no problem. Piece of cake. You forgot to add, try not to melt."

Brains: "We have a saying at International Rescue. It's never over. We always find a way."
Andi Houseman: "You really say that?"
Brains: "Well, it's not actually something we say, but it is something we believe."

Brains: "Good work, Alan."
Alan: "No sweat. Actually, it was a lot of sweat, like a lot."

Trivia[]

  • This episodes borrows several elements from the classic episode End of the Road.
  • As of this episode, Brains has been seen on board all five main Thunderbird craft.
  • This is the first episode where Thunderbird 3 activates the solar sails at the end of the episode.
  • This episode shows that the pods carried aboard Thunderbird 3 can be used on celestial bodies rather than only in space (whether or not the pods could do this was previously unknown).
  • The pod used in this mission has a red chassis, which is fitting as it matches Thunderbird 3. This could be an upgrade from the yellow pods seen in earlier episodes.
  • This is an important episode for Alan's character development, as he is seeing being briefed by John, and then making his own decisions on the form that the mission should take. In previous episodes, this would have been done by somebody else (typically Scott), and this extends as he is the only Tracy brother to attend the emergency (taking Brains along with him for technical advice). All of this indicates a "promotion" following his trial as the mission leader in Deep Search.
