"Volcano!" is the 14th episode of Thunderbirds Are Go! season 2. It was aired on both television and select VUE cinemas on September 30, as part of Thunderbirds Day celebrations.

Plot[]

Dr Quentin Questa has inaccurately predicted the eruption of Hrómundartinhurmindur, a volcano in Iceland, for the last decade. This time, however, he invokes a special science code of honour that brings Brains out to his location. Brains discovers that Questa is right: the volcano is gonna blow!

Quotes[]

Professor Questa: "Hrómundartinhurmindur is gonna blow!"

Brains: "T-Thanks for the lift, Scott."
Scott: "Not a problem. Ah, the detour should only add a few seconds to the flight."
Brains: "A f-few seconds? But by my calculations, it takes Thunderbird 1 at least 12.3 seconds to land."
Scott: "Who said anything about landing?"
Brains: "Oh no..."

Brains: "Oh, the things I do for science..."

Brains: "M-MAX, why are you playing that music?"

Brains: (sighs) "Robots, always thinking with their d-diodes."

Concierge: "How may I assist you?"
Virgil: "Hi, I'm from International Rescue."
Concierge: "Yeah, and I'm Jeff Tracy."
(Virgil clears his throat and points out the window at Thunderbird 2.)
Concierge: "Oh, my."

Concierge: "Thank you, thank you, International Rescue!"
Brains: "Oh no, d-don't thank us, thank..."
Professor Questa: "Thank Isaac Newton."
Concierge: "Very well. I'll send... Mr. Newton a gift basket immediately." (He heads back to the resort.)
Brains: "Should we t-tell him?"
Professor Questa: "No, he'll figure it out... eventually?"

Trivia[]

  • Inspiration for this episode might have come from the PC Game "Thunderbirds - Operation Volcano" released in 2001.
  • Scott states a reference to The Uninvitedas he mentions about a fire incident in Tokyo, in which his classic series counterpart was returning from that very mission at the very start of that episode.
  • Grandma Tracy asks Questa "have you ever heard of 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf'?", which is one of Aesop's classic fables, and also references the classic series episode Cry Wolf.
  • Hrómundartinhurmindur appears to be a fictionalised version of the real Icelandic volcano Hrómundartindur.
