"SOS Part 1" is the 12th episode of Thunderbirds Are Go! season 3. It was broadcast on June 1, 2019, in the UK.
Plot[]
International Rescue receives a distress call from the Calypso, a space vessel returning from a long mission. Scott and Brains get aboard the plummeting ship and locate the disoriented and confused crew along with an old robot named Braman, who sent the original distress call. Meanwhile, Parker needs help locating Sherbet, who has gone missing.

Trivia[]
- Gordon independently pilots Thunderbird 1 for the first time within any media. However, he also flew Thunderbird 1 in TV Century 21 comic-strip The Antarctic Menace.
- Gordon launches Thunderbird 1 using horizontal flight mode, rather than Scott's traditional take-off position.
- This is also the first time that somebody other than that one of the Tracy Brothers is seen gearing-up in one of the other brothers' boarding station.
- Moreover, this is the first time within this series that anybody other than Scott has been seen manually piloting Thunderbird 1; whereas in the classic series, Alan Tracy piloted Thunderbird 1 in Atlantic Inferno.
- Kayo, Virgil and The Hood all make silent cameos at the end of the episode.
- Both the plot synopsis and cast listings hinted that Virgil was to have a speaking role in the episode, but this proved to be wrong upon airing.
- Braman is a re-design of its classic counterpart, a robot designed by Brains in the classic episode Sun Probe. Additionally, both incarnations are voiced by David Graham.
- The sound effect used for Braman’s shutdown is an exact copy of the sound effect used for the original Braman’s startup, as heard in Sun Probe.
- Contrary to his role in communications, John is the only person of the main cast to not be seen listening to the final SOS call.
- Finn tells Scott that he looks like Jeff. Previously, Kip Harris said that Virgil resembles Jeff.
- It's never explained why two scientist astronauts required such a massive ship. Alan even comments on how large it is as Thunderbird 3 initially intercepts it. The room with the hibernation chambers shows that it was built with four chambers, despite launching with only two human passengers.
- Brains' involvement with the Calypso mission is unclear. When Alan and Scott are about to gear up, Brains says, "The Calypso mission has always been of great interest to me." The implication seems to be that he's not been directly involved but paid attention from a distance. However, it's later revealed that he gave the mission its third crew member, Braman.
- This is the first rescue to feature Scott since Chaos Part 2, giving him an unprecedented nine episode gap between missions.
- This episode features a new closing theme, which is a low-pitched version of the usual closing theme. This version is more dramatic than the usual closing theme (or that used in Ring of Fire Part 2 and Hyperspeed).
