"Crash Course" was the first original story published in the Thunderbirds Redan magazine. It was presented as a short story, somewhat unusually for the Redan magazine which would feature a comic instead from the next issue onwards.
Narratively, it ends after the rescue in Trapped in the Sky, with International Rescue leaving London International Airport after their successful first rescue mission. It features the Hood and his subsequent movements after being shot off the road by FAB 1. Consequently, it likely describes the story of International Rescue's second ever mission.

Will International Rescue foil the evil Hood..?
The Hood has failed to escape with images of the Thunderbirds craft after sabotaging the Fireflash aircraft. To make matters worse, his mini-submarine has been discovered by the army and is about to be taken away. Looking for a way to distract them, the Hood sabotages a nearby atomic oil tanker and sets it for a collision course with their military base at Porthaven.
